How to Actually Prepare for Fresher Interviews

Most interview guides tell you to memorise answers. That is the wrong approach. Interviewers in India can tell immediately when someone is reciting a memorised script. It sounds robotic. It kills your chances.

What works instead: understand the intent behind each question. “Tell me about yourself” is not asking for your life story. It is asking if you can communicate clearly and confidently. “Why this company” is not asking for facts you read on their website. It is asking if you care enough to have an opinion.

Prepare stories, not answers. For every major question, have a 60–90 second story from your life — a project, a challenge, something you learned. Stories are memorable. Scripted answers are forgettable.

The Difference Between HR and Technical Rounds

Understanding what each round is really testing changes how you prepare for it. The two rounds have completely different goals. Treat them the same and you will underperform in both.

In a technical round, if you do not know an answer, do not bluff. Say “I am not sure of this one, but here is how I would approach finding the answer.” That is an honest, impressive response. Guessing and getting it wrong is not.

HR Round

Your personality, communication, cultural fit. They are deciding if you are someone they want to work with. Be yourself, be clear, be honest.

Technical Round

Your knowledge of your field. They are checking if you actually know what you claim to know on your resume. Do not bluff.

Body Language and Communication Tips

01

Make eye contact but do not stare

Look at the interviewer when speaking, glance away naturally. Constant staring is uncomfortable.

02

Slow down

Nervousness makes you speak fast, which makes you harder to understand. Deliberate pace = confidence.

03

Cut the filler words

Do not say 'um' and 'like' every 5 words. Practice out loud to catch this habit before the interview.

04

Sit straight

Slouching signals disinterest. You do not need to be rigid — just upright and present.

05

End your answer clearly

Do not trail off. Say 'That is my answer' or just stop talking. Confidence is knowing when you are done.

01A train 200m long passes a pole in 10 seconds. What is its speed?

Answer

Speed = Distance/Time = 200/10 = 20 m/s = 72 km/h. Conversion: multiply m/s by 3.6 to get km/h.

02If A is twice as fast as B, and together they complete work in 6 days, how long does A alone take?

Answer

Let B = 1/x work per day, A = 2/x. Together: 3/x = 1/6. So x = 18. A alone = 18/2 = 9 days.

03What is 30% of 250?

Answer

250 × 0.30 = 75. Simple percentage calculation — know this by heart.

04Find the next number in the series: 2, 6, 12, 20, 30, ?

Answer

Differences are 4, 6, 8, 10, 12. Next = 30 + 12 = 42.

05A shopkeeper buys an item for ₹800 and sells it for ₹1000. What is the profit percentage?

Answer

Profit = 200. Profit% = (200/800) × 100 = 25%.

06Two pipes can fill a tank in 10 and 15 hours respectively. How long to fill together?

Answer

Combined rate = 1/10 + 1/15 = 3/30 + 2/30 = 5/30 = 1/6 per hour. Time = 6 hours.

07A man walks 4 km east and then 3 km north. How far is he from the start?

Answer

Pythagorean theorem: √(4² + 3²) = √(16 + 9) = √25 = 5 km.

08What is the LCM of 12 and 18?

Answer

Prime factors: 12 = 2² × 3, 18 = 2 × 3². LCM = 2² × 3² = 36.

09A and B can finish work in 12 days, B and C in 15 days, A and C in 20 days. How long for A alone?

Answer

A+B=1/12, B+C=1/15, A+C=1/20. Sum = 2(A+B+C) = 1/12+1/15+1/20 = 12/60 = 1/5. So A+B+C = 1/10. A alone = 1/10 − 1/15 = 1/30. A = 30 days.

10In how many ways can 4 people be arranged in a row?

Answer

4! = 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 = 24 ways. Permutation formula P(n,r) = n!/(n-r)!

Are these questions actually asked in Indian interviews?

Yes. These are based on patterns from hundreds of interview experiences shared on Reddit, LinkedIn, and Glassdoor by Indian freshers. Not every company asks all of these, but most of these come up in some form.

Should I memorize these answers?

No. Memorised answers sound robotic. Read the structure, understand the intent, and then form your own answer using your own experiences.

Are these questions for any specific company?

The HR questions apply to almost every company. The technical questions are weighted towards IT and software roles. For company-specific questions, practice on WhatsApp where we can tailor them.

How do I know if my answer is actually good?

You do not, unless someone gives you feedback. That is why the WhatsApp practice tool exists — the AI scores your answer and tells you specifically what was weak.
