Why Practice Interviews Actually Work
The first interview you ever do should not be the real one. That sounds obvious, but most freshers show up to their first actual interview without ever having spoken their answers out loud. They freeze on “Tell me about yourself” — not because they do not have an answer, but because they have never said it before. Practice removes that freeze.
Research shows students who practice interviews get 40% more offers. The difference is not always qualifications. Two candidates with identical resumes walk in — the one who practiced speaks clearly, gives structured answers, and comes across as confident. The other stumbles. That gap is entirely preventable.
A mock interview shows you your weak spots before a recruiter does. Maybe you talk too fast when nervous. Maybe you give vague answers when asked about projects. Maybe you have no questions ready for the end of the interview. Better to find out now, on your own terms.
How Indian Companies Interview Freshers
Most freshers go through 2–3 rounds. Round 1 is usually an aptitude test or coding challenge done online. This filters out a large chunk before you ever speak to anyone. Clear this and you are in the running.
Round 2 is the HR round. They ask behavioral questions, check how you communicate, and see if you fit the culture. It sounds soft but this round eliminates a lot of candidates. How you carry yourself matters as much as what you say. Round 3 — if it happens — is technical. They test your subject knowledge, give you a problem to solve, or ask domain-specific questions.
The type of company changes what they weight. Product companies like Swiggy, Razorpay, and CRED put a heavier focus on technical depth — they want to see how you think and solve problems. Service companies like TCS, Wipro, and Infosys put more emphasis on communication, attitude, and aptitude scores. Know which category your target company falls into.

How to Answer the Most Common Questions
"Tell me about yourself"
Keep it 90 seconds: name, degree, what you are good at, why this role. Do not read off your resume.
"Why this company?"
Research 2 things about them before the interview. Mention those 2 things. Generic answers get filtered out fast.
The weakness question
Name a real weakness that does not disqualify you, then explain what you are doing to fix it. Saying "I work too hard" is not an answer.
The salary question
If you are a fresher, say: "I am open to industry standard. Can you share the budget for this role?" It shows confidence without anchoring too low.
